Mzuzu Academy

Mzuzu Academy Buildings

Mzuzu Academy is the first international preparatory school in Northern Malawi.  Opened in September of 2010, Mzuzu Academy offers its students a world-class secondary school education and is lead by Headmaster John McGuinness who has years of experience in both European and African international schools.

Mzuzu Academy construction crewThe opening of Mzuzu Academy is a tremendous accomplishment. In 2003, local community leaders identified the lack of educational opportunities as one of the most pressing needs in Northern Malawi. Despite countless obstacles and seemingly insurmountable challenges, Maloto and its founder Anna Msowoya Keys, responded to community needs and began a capital campaign and raised over $600,000 to open Mzuzu Academy.

But, the need is still great.  The shortage of secondary schools remains a critical problem, and Mzuzu Academy has plans to expand its capacity to serve 400 students.  Maloto believes that a quality, competitive education should be available for all children. Malawi lost a generation to HIV/AIDS and cannot afford to lose another generation due to a lack of education!
